"Fit-Ful" is a term created by Lesa which means, the union of fitness and beauty from within (FITness and beautiFUL). Working on fitness to incorporate improved health and self-esteem along with working on internal beauty by developing connections to self image, spirituality of life and society's connection. Acceptance VS. Resistance...

Maybe you've seen the movie "Yes Man!".

If you have not, it is one that I recommend. Not just for the pure comedy that is Jim Carey, but for the education.

From personal experience, I have found that when I enter a situation with acceptance, I find better results. Inside, I might be thinking "there is no way this is going to work". However, if I've approached from a positive standpoint-the result can be amazing. Maybe one that I hadn't imagined for myself. Yet, with acceptance I find an new experience that my "self" may not have allowed me to take.

On the opposite end of the spectrum...there is resistance. Entering a situation with resistance causes the body to become tense: increased heart rate, head pressure, lack of energy, hypertension...the list goes on.

I have found that resistance can sometimes lead to an unneccessary battle...against the law of fate. Things happen for a reason. Being able to let go and take the ride can be difficult but invigorating at the same time. Imagine a rollar coaster...going up, you may wonder "why did I willingly get on this ride?"...everyone has their own experience during the ride...some people laugh, cry, vomit...but, the way down is a rush. Some people close their eyes, put their hands up, want to see the view at the top...

Most of the time, at the end of the ride you are glad you did it. Maybe you overcame a fear. Maybe you had the best time ever. Maybe you decide to never ride again.

But...bottom line, you did it.

Next time someone asks you for something, try answering with acceptance. It doesn't mean that you need to say yes to everything. But, rather than saying no all of the time...try yes.

"Maybe" or "Let me get back to you" can work if you have a hard time switching to yes.

See what your experience is with your new found reaction of acceptance.

With love,
Lesa

"Fit-Ful" Fridays blog for 11/13/09

A while ago, I received this email from a good friend of mine.

Read with an open mind and take with you what you will. Enjoy!

Life is a succession of lessons which must be lived to be understood." (Helen Keller)

Rule One - You will receive a body. Whether you love it or hate it, it's yours for life, so accept it. What counts is what's inside.

Rule Two - You will be presented with lessons. Life is a constant learning experience, which every day provides opportunities for you to learn more. These lessons specific to you, and learning them, is the key to discovering and fulfilling the meaning and relevance of your own life.

Rule Three - There are no mistakes, only lessons. Your development towards wisdom is a process of experimentation, trial and error, so it's inevitable things will not always go as planned or turn out how you'd want. Compassion is the remedy for harsh judgement - of ourselves and others. Forgiveness is not only divine - it's also 'the act of erasing an emotional debt'. Behaving ethically, with integrity, and with humour - especially the ability to laugh at yourself and your own mishaps - are central to the perspective that 'mistakes' are simply lessons we must learn.

Rule Four - The lesson is repeated until learned. Lessons repeat until learned. What manifest as problems and challenges, irritations and frustrations are more lessons - they will repeat until you see them as such and learn from them. Your own awareness and your ability to change are requisites of executing this rule. Also fundamental is the acceptance that you are not a victim of fate or circumstance - 'causality' must be acknowledged; that is to say: things happen to you because of how you are and what you do. To blame anyone or anything else for your misfortunes is an escape and a denial; you yourself are responsible for you, and what happens to you. Patience is required - change doesn't happen overnight, so give change time to happen.

Rule Five - Learning does not end. While you are alive there are always lessons to be learned. Surrender to the 'rhythm of life', don't struggle against it. Commit to the process of constant learning and change - be humble enough to always acknowledge your own weaknesses, and be flexible enough to adapt from what you may be accustomed to, because rigidity will deny you the freedom of new possibilities.

Rule Six - "There" is no better than "here". The other side of the hill may be greener than your own, but being there is not the key to endless happiness. Be grateful for and enjoy what you have, and where you are on your journey. Appreciate the abundance of what's good in your life, rather than measure and amass things that do not actually lead to happiness. Living in the present helps you attain peace.

Rule Seven - Others are only mirrors of you. You love or hate something about another person according to what you love or hate about yourself. Be tolerant; accept others as they are, and strive for clarity of self-awareness; strive to truly understand and have an objective perception of your own self, your thoughts and feelings. Negative experiences are opportunities to heal the wounds that you carry. Support others, and by doing so you support yourself. Where you are unable to support others it is a sign that you are not adequately attending to your own needs.

Rule Eight - What you make of your life is up to you. You have all the tools and resources you need. What you do with them is up to you. Take responsibility for yourself. Learn to let go when you cannot change things. Don't get angry about things - bitter memories clutter your mind. Courage resides in all of us - use it when you need to do what's right for you. We all possess a strong natural power and adventurous spirit, which you should draw on to embrace what lies ahead.

Rule Nine - Your answers lie inside of you. Trust your instincts and your innermost feelings, whether you hear them as a little voice or a flash of inspiration. Listen to feelings as well as sounds. Look, listen, and trust. Draw on your natural inspiration.

Rule Ten - You will forget all of this at birth. We are all born with all of these capabilities - our early experiences lead us into a physical world, away from our spiritual selves, so that we become doubtful, cynical and lacking belief and confidence. The Ten Rules are not commandments, they are universal truths that apply to us all. When you lose your way, call upon them. Have faith in the strength of your spirit. Aspire to be wise - wisdom the ultimate path of your life: and it knows no limits other than those you impose on yourself.

"Fit-Ful" Fridays blog for 11/6/09

Healthy Holidays!

It's that time of year again...spending time with the family, enjoying the season change (with the exception of San Diego :) and holiday treats.....yum. It's my favorite time of year!

There is definitely a way to enjoy without over indulging.

How???

Here are my quick tips to a healthy holiday season:
1. Office treats: Thank everyone for their lovely offerings at the office-but stick to your guns. If you are doing well in your everyday diet, enjoying a small portion or sharing with a co-worker is okay. Just remember that time spent on "treats" has to translate into time spent at the studio...so you can sweat it off!

2. Kindly accept candy canes and other holiday treats, but pass them to others or use as present decor. Nothing says, "Merry Christmas" more than a gift decorated with a lovely candy cane!

3. This one applies ALL year long: Pack your lunches. You are less inclined to cheat on your healthy diet if you have a nutritious lunch pre-packed. (Insert excuse here) "But I don't have time"...Here's what I say to that: If it's REALLY important, you will make the time. Period.

4. A jump rope is one of the best, easiest, cheapest methods to getting high cardio each day. If you have a place to use it, take a few minutes of your lunch break to jump. Chances are, you will feel more alert after a few minutes of jumping rope. And guess what, there's no sugar crash affect!

5. Share with your family, the gift of a healthy holiday. If everyone pitches in for Thanksgiving, have everyone bring a healthy version of their dish---less oil, fat, salt, sugar. And if there is that one item that is tradition and MUST be cooked the way it is---have it, but in smaller portions. Or, have the fam play a fun game of "The Deck of Cards Game" (Scroll down for that blog post and the directions on how to incorporate exercise into this old card game) after dinner, rather than falling asleep.

Lastly,

On November 25th Wednesday (The Wednesday before Thanksgiving) my studio MIX is holding our first annual "Gratitude Wednesday". It is our way of giving thanks for our clients, the ability to move and the gift of health. Classes are free all day!

The schedule for Gratitude Wednesday is as follows:

10:00am---Boot Camp!

5:30pm---Stretch It
6:30pm---The Mix Technique
7:30pm---Funky Yoga

I'm Baaaaaccccckkkkkk!

It has been some time since my last post. Many new life changes have taken place since then and I wanted to make sure I chose my words and thoughts appropriately.

I have been relecting in the last few months---learning more about myself, the world, and people around me.

The next several posts will all focus on what I've learned and want to share with my family, friends and students.

My goal is to teach and inspire---so that we may all benefit from experiences, error, triumphs...all of it. They are all learning experiences. I have learned to embrace every moment as a learning and teaching tool...To not be embarassed by what I might find, but to share with others because we are all human.

Today's first blog is one that I am extremely passionate about. Lately, I have had experiences where I keep feeling the need to voice my opinion in this regard and here it is:

In the famous words of Grandma Lee (contestant on America's Got Talent):

Cut the CRAP!!!

It's time to get real.

No more sugar coating.

Honesty is the best policy and folks, we need to cut the crap.

BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR YOUR LIFE AND ACTIONS.

Stop blaming people and circumstance for your lack of inspiration. Inspire yourself or reconnect with something that moves you.

Don't wait for someone else to make you great.

It doesn't work that way.

I hear excuses ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL THHHHHHHEEEEEE TIIIIIIMMMMMME.

For what?

I don't want to hear an excuse for why you feel you are not valuable enough to try.

That's my message---Are you valuable enough to try? YES!

We all are---yet most of us whine and complain and serve up excuses to "not" be great.

I'm tired, I don't have any time, I'm scared, my childhood was difficult, my neighborhood is dangerous, I'm not smart enough...

It's like a self-fulfilling prophecy to fail.

I would rather see everyone succeed and be tired from working hard at being great,
than to see people fail because they didn't think they deserved it.

I get so mad when people are "okay" with not trying.

It hurts my heart.

We all have a potential, we all can be great, we all can inspire...

Yet we choose to go along for the ride and watch other people connect with their greatness.

Then, some of us, knock people down who are trying to be the best versions of themselves.

I could go on forever on this topic alone.

BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR YOUR LIFE AND ACTIONS.

BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR YOUR LIFE AND ACTIONS.

BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR YOUR LIFE AND ACTIONS.

Deck of Cards Game:
Ok---Here is a fun game to try. This was an idea of Jillian Michaels, from the Biggest Loser:
You have a deck of playing cards. Keep all cards in, but shuffle.
On a separate piece of paper, assign an exercise to each of the following:
  • King
  • Queen
  • Jack
  • Joker
  • Spade
  • Club
  • Heart
  • Diamond

Each time you pull a card, read the amount and the type, ie: 7 Hearts.

If you decided that Heart would be push ups, you do 7 push ups.

Make the King, Queen, Jack and Joker cards something challenging to you!

Those can each be exercises done for 30 secs or 60 secs. Up to you!

*When I play this game with my students, Ace is a 60 sec. rest.

You're welcome!

It's how you feel
Ladies and gentleman,
When working out and eating healthy (remember, always BOTH) it's how you FEEL...not solely what the scale says. The scale is only going to tell you how much you weigh. It's not going to tell you what is muscle and what is fat. You can tell if your clothes fit differently, if you feel better in your own skin and notice the benefits to working out regularly and eating healthy.
Get a body fat percentage taken if you want to know your breakdown.
13-20% is considered Athletic (for men it is lower, 7-13)
21-29% is considered Average
Be aware of how much your muscle vs. fat ratio breaks down.
40-50% + is considered obese.

Customer Service...Where Did It Go?
Recently, I have run into several situations where, as a customer, I am baffled and perplexed by the behavior of people working in today's society.
I started working in high school, so I remember learning about customer service and how important it is. I do not believe this same message is being portrayed to our current generation. However, wake up call: Most of this extreme behavior is being done by people my age (the 30 group) and older.
In the last year: I have been ignored at registers, passed from one worker to another, made to feel like my business was not important, that I was a disturbance to someones cell phone conversation/colleague conversation, not greeted (even after I did the greeting or asked them how they were doing), chastised for asking a question...the list goes on and on.
I even had an employee tell me that she preferred real candles and wouldn't help me when I asked a question about their stores fake candles...Not sure how the creator of that store chain would have felt if he/she heard that conversation.
So-what am I going to do to change it?
I am going to do what I do best, and that is to teach.
People treat you the way you teach them to treat you.
I am passing on a quote by Mahatma Ghandi on "The Customer":
======================================
A customer is the most important visitor on our premises. He is not dependent on us. We are dependent on him. He is not an interruption on our work. He is the purpose of it. He is not an outsider in our business. He is a part of it. We are not doing him a favor by serving him. He is doing us a favor by giving us an opportunity to do so.
- Mahatma Gandhi
======================================

It is my hope that there are many of you out there who can spread this amongst your friends. Customer Service should not be a dying art. It blows my mind how people can't even say "hello" to a guest before they ring them up or assist them. Those of you who know me know that I have had every job under the sun. I liked experiencing different tasks and atmospheres.

I think everyone should have a job in customer service, at least once, to understand the magnitude of it all. I also think everyone should have a job where tips are either all, or, a portion of their income to appreciate the magnitude of tipping. I also believe that if your customer service is extremely poor, not receiving a tip should not come as a surprise.

MIX, my new studio location, will have Mahatma Ghandi's quote posted...I still believe in customer service.

"Fit-Ful" Fridays blog for 6/5/09

This is something we should all read at least once a week!

Sent to me from a dear friend...

Written By Regina Brett, 90 years old, of The Plain Dealer, Cleveland , Ohio
"To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me.
It is the most-requested column I've ever written."

"My odometer rolled over to 90 in August, so here is the column once more:

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.

2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.

3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch.

5. Pay off your credit cards every month.

6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.

8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it.

9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.

10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.

11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.

12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.

13. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.

15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don't worry; God never blinks.

16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.

17. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.

18. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.

19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.

20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.

21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.

22. Over prepare, then go with the flow.

23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.

24. The most important sex organ is the brain.

25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.

26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words 'In five years, will this matter?'

27. Always choose life.

28. Forgive everyone everything.

29. What other people think of you is none of your business.

30. Time heals almost everything. Give time time.

31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

32. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

33. Believe in miracles.

34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do.

35. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.

36. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young.

37. Your children get only one childhood.

38. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.

39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.

40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.

41. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.

42. The best is yet to come.

43. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

44. Yield.

45. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift.

Its estimated 93% won't forward this. If you are one of the 7% who will, forward this with the title '7%'. I'm in the 7%.Remember that I will always share my spoon with you!Friends are the family that we choose for ourselves".

If Creating A Rockin' Bod Was Easy...
We'd All Have One!

Vince Delmonte, the author of one of the most popular fitness programs online, says in his No nonsense 6 pack quest e-book:

"I want to elaborate on the power of shorter rest intervals, which I believe is the most underestimated variable to maximize metabolism and build muscle. Whether you are training for muscle or fat loss, I can’t recall the last time I saw someone in the gym training with any degree of oxygen debt, or sucking in air, as I prefer to call it. What you do see are people sitting on the bench looking around, chatting up a storm, or talking on their cell phone. It amazes me how many people expect to transform their body without sweating and going into any oxygen debt during their workout."

I never said getting into the best shape of your life is going to be easy.

DRIVE
I am often told by clients that they want to "look or feel like they did when they were younger".
The next sentence out of their mouths is, "that's impossible, huh?".
If your thought process stops there, then yes. But it doesn't have to.
One thing to understand is that, yes, as we get older things need more maintenance. The metabolism does slow down. This means, things we used to eat (without seeing negative effects) we need to approach with caution. Maybe we also need to change the workout plan. Remember, you will not do the same workout for the rest of your life. Once plateaus have been reached, time to change up that workout!
I have seen plenty of women (and men) who are considered "older" who look amazing! The question is, what is their drive?
Again...how badly do you want it? That's the determining factor.
Drive...Do you have it?

Sri K Pattabhi Jois 1915-2009

The following is a post I received from my Yoga certification schools Yahoo group (Yoga Well). I was saddened to hear this news, yet also wanted to share the information with my students and friends. The second portion is a letter from a fellow Yogi-It's nice to hear coming from someone who was able to personally work with this Yoga great.

It is with great sadness that I wish to inform you about the passing of Guruji Sri K Pattabhi Jois. Following a battle with ailing health, he passed today afternoon India time. He was 94. Guruji, as he was fondly know all over the world, was one of Sri T Krishnamacharya' s earlier students in Mysore. He has been instrumental in spreading one of Krishnamcharya' s methods, which is now popularly known as Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. He has been one of the most influential teachers of our time. It is our great privilege to have shared this earth with a master of his caliber.

The Krishnamacharya Healing & Yoga Foundation, as well as Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram, will be organizing a prayer in his honor on the 19 May 2009, at 6:00 pm at the premises of the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram. We invite everyone to come and participate. TKV Desikachar, who is in Tennessee currently, will organize a prayer meeting there with his group of students. At this difficult moment, it is the best gift we can offer his family. Please feel free to pass this message to your friends and students. Kausthub DesikacharKrishnamcharya Healing & Yoga.

Every time you see someone doing Power Yoga, Flow Yoga, or Vinyasa Yoga... ... it can almost inevitably be traced back in tradition to Pattabhi Jois, the modern master of Ashtanga Yoga who lived and taught in Mysore, India for the majority of his life. Ashtanga Yoga has been my primary practice for many many years, and it's amazing to think how this simple structured, series of postures can spread organically throughout the world... ... all because this one man got up every morning in his dusty Indian village and taught however many students were there to learn. In the old days, I'm told there were just a few students - a dozen at most -at 5 a.m. for practice. When I was in Mysore last (2006), there were nearly 200, and at 90 years old Pattabhi Jois was still helping me (and everyone else) drop back.

He was still squishing us flat in forward bends. And still doing the morning chant with a big booming voice. What a simple, incredible life. A yoga practice is ever-growing and changing thing, just like life, but it's pretty cool when one guy and his tradition stay still throughout it all. That's the power of focus. The power of clarity. And most of all, the power of practice. A big collective "thank you" is in order to the most influential yoga teacher of our time who has passed today.

Stay bendy, Lucas

NO
If I listened to everyone who told me "no"...I wouldn't be where I am today. For that, I am thankful. I am thankful for the challenge. Now, when someone tells me "no", I am determined to prove I can make it "yes". As long as you believe in yourself, stay motivated, have a support system of positive energy and take time for yourself---You can achieve anything.
Losing weight, finishing school, starting a business, staying connected with friends and family, jogging five more minutes, completing a marathon...the options are endless! Meditate on it, visualize yourself achieving it, plan it, talk about it...then, DO IT!
People are going to tell you "no". This is reality. Whether you listen to them or not is up to you.
YES!

How It Feels To Have A Stroke
Both my grandmother and grandfather (my mom's parents), suffered strokes, so this hits extremely close to home.
A yoga colleague of mine sent this link to me---When I saw that it was 20 minutes long I chuckled. But the insight in these 20 minutes is amazing and definitely worth the length.
Neuroanatomist, Jill Bolte Taylor, was recently featured on The Oprah Show because of her ability to recover from a stroke, analyze it and share her experience.
During this clip, her presentation for TED (http://www.ted.com/) enlightened audiences on how she survived. Toward the end of her presentation, she describes a mental state, which I relate to as my reasoning behind the love and inspiration I feel for Yoga.
With comedic timing and humanity, she describes the morning of her stroke. What an amazing point of view---for a Neuroanatomist to be able to come back and share! You would never think she suffered from a stroke, as she delivers her presentation with the poise and direction of a great scientist.
I have always been amazed by medicine and continue to be intrigued by the medical advancements that continue to take shape. When I was little, I wanted to be a Doctor, but cried at the site of people being in pain or hurt. Although I may not be a Doctor, my desire to help people with their health and well being is something I hold close to my heart and plan to continue.
Please share.

The Way To Perfect Abs
Truth...You could do crunches and sit ups ALL day and still not achieve the perfect abs.
Reality...What you eat and how much cardio you do daily will reveal the perfect abs.
Eric Williams, LMG Dance and Fitness trainer, calls it the "Vanity Weight". This is so true. It's vanity weight because it truly pushes you to think about what you eat and how that effects the body. It's the last 5 pounds that you have difficulty loosing, it's the problem area that drives you nuts...this is where the sacrifice and hard work come into play more than ever.
Now...By sacrifice-I DO NOT MEAN STARVING YOURSELF!
Great reward comes with hard work. Be smart about it. Not eating will only shut parts of the body and mind off and is hazardous to your health and well being...not to mention, deadly.
I am speaking about eating healthy-fueling the body with "good" energy.
Cutting out the excessive fats, carbs, salts, sugars, alcohol!
Notice, I say "excessive". Everyone needs fats, carbs and sugars...your brain needs them to function, your body needs them to create energy, to heal itself and regenerate cells.
People think I am just being difficult when I tell them the best way to get physically fit is to eat healthy...3-5 meals a day (less "starves" the body and the body will start to store fat).
The last thing you want to do when trying to loose weight is skip meals.
I can not stress this point more!
Your body assumes it needs to store fat for energy if a meal is skipped. So, you are doing yourself more harm by not eating.
Workout! Cardiovascular activity...at least 30 mins a day...Elevated heart rate...That uncomfortable feeling you get in the first few minutes of jogging, jump rope, fast paced walking...This is what we want to work at during the 30 mins of non-stop elevated heart rate. With practice, just like everything else, it gets easier.
This is the fat burner! This is the secret to your success.
That's it.
You simply have to decide you want it.
No one is going to make you.
It comes down to YOU.
Want perfect abs?
Eat healthy, cardio to burn the layer of fat, when you physically reach where you want to be---crunches, full sit ups, core work such as pilates, yoga, ballet.
Do it.

"Fit-Ful" Friday blog for 4/3/09

A good friend of mine forwarded this email to me and I think it has an important message.

INFORMATION EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW........................
Blood Clots/Stroke - They Now Have a Fourth Indicator, the Tongue

STROKE: Remember the 1st Three Letters....S.T.R. My nurse friend sent this and encouraged me to post it and spread the word. I agree. If everyone can remember something this simple, we could save some folks.

STROKE IDENTIFICATION: During a BBQ, a friend stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics). She said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes. They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Ingrid went about enjoying herself the rest of the eveningIngrid's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00 pm Ingrid passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Ingrid would be with us today. Some don't die. they end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead. It only takes a minute to read this...A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.

RECOGNIZING A STROKE: Thank goodness for the sense to remember the '3' steps, STR .
Read and Learn! Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke. Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:
S *Ask the individual to SMILE.
T *Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently)(i.e. It is sunny out today)
R *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS. If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

New Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick out Your Tongue.
NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out his tongue.. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other, that is also an indication of a stroke. A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this e-mail sends it to 10 people; you can bet that at least one life will be saved. I have done my part. Have you?

C.O.M.P.A.S.S.I.O.N.

I see this word becoming a rare occurence and it saddens me. Recently in the news, a story exemplifying "lack of compassion" became a headliner.

I'm sure we can all think of a situation where we experienced lack of compassion...Hopefully, you can think of a time in your life where someone was compassionate with you...And you, for someone else.

If everyone could take the time to understand being compassionate, we would live in a happier place.

The audio footage of this current news story made me sick to my stomach and the video clip is difficult to watch. You can YouTube it, however, please be warned.

Provided by The New York Times:
Dallas Police Officer Makes Death Even Worse
By
Lynn Zinser
As if having your mother-in-law dying of breast cancer was not painful enough, Houston running back Ryan Moats had it made worse by a Dallas police officer who stopped him for running a red light near the hospital, would not listen to his pleas about the circumstances, drew his gun, threatened to arrest him and kept Moats in the parking lot while his mother-in-law died.
The officer, Robert Powell, was put on administrative leave on Thursday and Dallas Police Chief David Kunkle apologized to Moats and his family. “His behavior, in my opinion, did not exhibit the common sense, the discretion, the compassion that we expect our officers to exhibit,” Kunkle told The Associated Press.
Moats’s wife, Tamishia, ignored Powell and ran into the hospital anyway. She arrived at her mother’s bedside just as 45-year-old Jonetta Collinsworth died.
The incident was captured on a 16-minute video (
Part 1 and Part 2), courtesy of Powell’s in-dash video recorder.

For Anushka, the best doggie :)

Live Life...

Put simply. Nothing else matters but how you live life. The amounts of money, the fancy clothes, the expensive cars, the mansion, the degrees...

In the end...what is your "dash"? We are all born and we will all die, but what we did with the "dash" in between is the most important.

As I say this to you, I am also saying it to myself. We've all had days where we are going 5,000 miles per hour, too busy to return a phone call to a friend, too busy to smile or be courteous to a stranger...but is that all you want your life to be? Numerous examples of these actions?

Recently, my husband and I have come to face losing people and pets whom were the epitome of "living life". They are examples of how I hope to live. Enjoying every minute, teaching positive and never wallowing in the negative.

In the end...did you have time to enjoy yourself and your friends and family?
Did you laugh and play?
Did you smile?

This video clip is about the "dash" and an important reminder of how to stay focused on the important things in life. Material things are just that...material. Love, life and laughter are much deeper and touch people everywhere.

Get your physical activity anywhere...

Who says you have to use fancy gym equipment to get a great workout?

Try these steps to include more activity into your daily routine...FREE!

1. Don't worry about fighting over a rockstar parking spot anymore. Park far, walk more and get additional exercise. Free and stress free :)

2. Why wait for an elevator that takes 2 minutes to come down one floor, when you can take the stairs. Also free...!

3. Instead of spending money at the mall...window shop and walk laps around the mall. This way, you get to see all of the new merchandise without the damage to your wallet. At the same time, burn that fat!

4. Commercial breaks are the time you add in crunches, jumping jacks, push ups, lunges...

5. Run...Walk...Skip...around your neighborhood, the bay, the beach, the park...enjoy being outside and get your dose of vitamin D while being outside. Exercise and vitamins...free!

Enjoy!
